Major Gift Officer - The Salvation Army
Boston, MA
The Salvation Army Massachusetts Division (TSA MA) seeks an experienced Major Gift Officer to join a dynamic, collaborative development team. This results-oriented professional will help advance relationships with high-capacity individuals to secure significant philanthropic support for TSA’s mission.
The Salvation Army MA raises between $16 - $19 million each year, of which about $3-4 million comes from major gifts. This division of TSA MA achieved a fundraising goal of $3.5 million in 2024. The Major Gift Officer portfolio will generate at least $1 million annually.
For over 150 years, The Salvation Army has been a faith-based organization dedicated to supporting individuals facing life's most difficult challenges. TSA serves over 30 million Americans annually through programs like disaster relief, youth empowerment, hunger alleviation, addiction recovery, and holiday support. In Massachusetts, TSA MA reaches every community, helping thousands each day.
While normally serving 3.5M meals per year, TSA MA served over 25 million meals in the first 10 months of the pandemic. Since the start of the pandemic in March 2019 until now, TSA MA has served over 45M meals to people in need. TSA continues to serve communities affected by the long-term health, economic, and social effects of the pandemic.
The MGO will manage a portfolio of 100-150 major gift donors, working to grow donations from five-figure to seven-figure levels. They will use moves management strategies to cultivate and solicit gifts, targeting the growth of major gifts and special donations. The Major Gift Officer’s role will include cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors while meeting annual revenue goals of $1 million or more for the Major Gifts program. They will collaborate with TSA MA’s 13-person development team, work cross-functionally with other TSA departments to support key fundraising priorities and report to Carlisa Brown, the Divisional Director of Advancement
The ideal candidate for this role comes with a track record in securing six-figure gifts or higher, strong communication skills and ability to engage diverse donors, including discussions around personal finances and ability to ask for outright charitable gifts.
The MGO must be able to travel throughout Massachusetts and will have some flexibility with work-from-home options.
Compensation: The salary range for this role starts at $90,000, commensurate with experience.
